Mr. James Matthew Booker "Yak", as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was born on February 10, 1959 to Carrie Bell Leake and Clyde Booker, Sr.

He attended Laurens County District 56 Schools, Little River Zion Baptist Church in Kinards, SC and was a lifelong resident of Clinton, SC.

They say every sunset brings the promise of a new dawn and on Monday, October 30, 2023; James Booker's promise was fulfilled as he went from Labor to Reward at Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, SC. Mr. James Matthew Booker was loved by many and his memory and legacy will live on in the hearts of his: children, Katrina Booker of Simpsonville, SC, Brionta Levar Turner, Sr. of Washington, DC and James Anderson of Virginia; mother, Carrie Bell Leake; his sister, Rose (Horace) Kennedy; niece and nephew, Shayla and Michael Kennedy; and good friend, Craig Vance; as well as many other loving relatives and friends.
